Under age sex and statutory rape
What’s the difference between statutory rape and sexual abuse?
The main difference is one of choice. If anyone under the age of consent is pressurised into doing anything sexual by another person then this is sexual abuse.
If you are in this situation it is important to tell an adult that you can trust so that they can get you some help, or telephone ChildLine (08001111) for advice and support.
The main thing to remember about having sex is whether you want to or not. If you feel in any way pressured you have a right to say NO. If you are over 16 and are with somebody that you love and trust and you feel ready, then sex can be a very positive and healthy experience. Always remember to use a condom, certain sexually transmitted diseases can affect you for the rest of your life.
