Sexual Abuse happens to boys too
“I also like the idea that you had put in about if boys have been abused or raped, not just girls. Because i know some people who are guys and they think that sort of thing can only happen to girls and not boys. I think it's important that boys and young men can go somewhere too, to talk to someone and hopefully not feel embaressed about it.”
If you are a boy or young man who has been sexually abused, the whole website is for you! Here is a bit more information that may be useful.
Boys often experience the effects of sexual abuse differently to girls for the following reasons:
- People don’t think it happens to boys
- Boys are ‘supposed to be tough’
- Boys may think they are gay
Mankind UK are a charity working with men who were sexually abused in childhood. They believe that the above issues mean that boys who have been sexually abused may have even more feelings of confusion, guilt and shame than girls who have been abused in this way.
